Life can often feel like a swirling tornado of uncertainty and unpredictability, but what if instead of resisting it, we chose to lean into the chaos?
My dad was just a no-frills bloke. He never owned a fancy car and he used to say, "As long as it gets me from A to B, that's all I need." I loved his philosophy and his no-drama approach. He just took everything in his stride.
I've never been good at going from A to B. I always take detours, avoid motorways, and count to 10 before I take the wheel. I wasn't always this cautious, but life and its trials seem to have given me a phobia of being in charge of my destiny.
Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave
a trail.
When I reflect on when things are going well, it's often without a map. I've gone off the beaten track and just kept following the "yeses," never quite making the destination that I thought I would reach, but enjoying the view as I go through places that I didn't even expect. And maybe that's what life is about - not getting to the top of the mountain.
Maybe that mountain was never meant to be climbed; maybe you are meant to just skirt around the sides and end up on the flat.
So often, we strive for control and order in everything we do. We meticulously plan out our days, set goals for ourselves, and try to create a sense of stability in an ever-changing world.
Embracing the chaos means being open to the unknown possibilities that come with letting go of rigid expectations.
